Dr. Sun’s research focuses on the pathogenesis of CFRD, as well as on the development of novel genetic ferret models that are suitable for addressing mechanisms of CFTR function in the pancreas and the cellular processes involved in pancreatic remodeling. He has also generated transgenic ferrets that can be used for lineage-tracing of the endocrine progenitors involved in islet neogenesis and/or regeneration in the CF ferret model. Most recently, he characterized the G551D-CFTR ferret and produced a conditional CFTR knockout ferret under the Center’s pilot program.
